New year, new you? Meh.

We are back to work after the longest launch period we’ve ever had followed by a long three week sabbatical.  How glorious it is to be able to really power down for three weeks from work! Even when it is work you love, like this is for us, having such a long, intentionally crafted time to focus on our families, our friends, ourselves, and other things on the personal side of life, is such a gift.

Having an integrated life-first business, for us, means that we intentionally choose how we spend our time– both in seasons of focus on the business and seasons of deep rest and celebration with the families.  BOTH/AND, always.

And now that we are back, we are finding all the  “NEW YEAR, NEW YOU, NEW BUSINESS!” messaging is a little much.  Calm down, people. No need to reinvent yourself because it just happens to be January.

Don’t get us wrong. We love some seasonal motivation to get in gear, but the notion that you have to completely reinvent your business (or yourself!) in order to get results is, in our opinion, misguided.

Instead, consider asking yourself these questions:

  • What is working?

  • What am I loving?

  • What is gaining traction?

  • How can I take the best pieces of my business and pour new energy and strategy into them?

  • How can I gently push pause on what isn’t moving me forward in this season?

Because everything you have done up until this point has value. Even if you aren’t where you want to be and have big goals yet to be fulfilled, have the courage to sift through your business and pull out the best methods, offers, audiences, etc. Use those things as a foundation to breathe new life into your business instead of feeling the manufactured pressure to make everything new this year.

BEHIND THE SCENES IN THE IMPACT INCUBATOR:
We just wrapped our third office hours/coworking call of 2025– with our new Incubatees, who you’ll likely be hearing more about soon!  Nine new participants are kicking off the new year alongside the rest of the Incubator with a vision and action plan for how they are going to make this their most prosperous year yet.

  • A big congrats to Erica L. who launched her brand new consulting business on Monday after being a consultant for an employer for years.

  • Shout out to S.P. who welcomed her first ever cohort to her group program this week (and has already starting filling out her waitlist)

  • Major props to Kara H. who turned a potential snag in her workshop delivery into an opportunity to advocate for her work and found a huge wave of support behind her that is leading to an even bigger potential for her work.

THIS WEEK:

PONDER:
Ever wonder exactly how much information you should include in your online courses/programs to make them packed with value while simultaneously not being so overwhelming?  Usually, less is more.

READ:

Because leaders are readers

  • Nonfiction (in paperback): A yearly re-read of The Power of Receiving by Amanda Owen (a must read for anyone who has ever found themselves people-pleasing, having trouble asking for and receiving help, and worthiness issues around money.)

  • Fiction (listening to audio version, narrated by Meryl Streep!): Tom Lake by Ann Patchett - The story of a woman Lara’s recounting her experiences as an actress one summer in a theater company called Tom Lake.  It’s an absolute delight of a book so far.

LISTEN:
A fun throwback for joyful new year momentum.
